Can I switch plans at any time? ▾
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade at any time. Changes take effect immediately. If you downgrade, overages in the current billing cycle are pro-rated.
What counts as a request? ▾
Every API call to any endpoint counts as one request. Mock mode requests (`_mock=true`) are free and do not count toward your limit. Failed requests (4xx/5xx) count unless they are authentication errors.
What happens if I exceed my limit? ▾
Free and Pro plans have hard caps — your API returns 429 responses when you hit the limit. Business plans have a soft cap with pay-per-use overage at $0.01/call. You'll receive email alerts at 80% and 100% of your monthly limit.
Do you offer academic or nonprofit pricing? ▾
Yes. Qualifying academic researchers and registered nonprofits receive a 50% discount on Pro and Business plans. Email us at pricing@maplespike.ca with your institution details.
Can I use MapleSpike for commercial products? ▾
Yes. All plans allow commercial use. The data sources are licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada, which permits commercial use with attribution. We recommend Pro or Business for production deployments.
Is there a free trial? ▾
The Free tier is always available with 1,000 requests per month — no time limit, no credit card. Pro and Business plans do not offer free trials, but you can upgrade from Free at any time.
